Description

Leuchars Set is named after William Leuchars, a retailer who sold the first Jacques sets in 1849 from his upmarket shop in Picadilly. Leuchars Knight's are typified by a plain version of the cook knight. This design was very rare and sold in few sets retailed by Leuchars. Sets of this design were retailed in Ivory combinations as well as boxwood & ebony.

The Set is specifically designed for Chess Collectors Community with careful consideration being made in crafting the chess pieces. Each Piece is meticulously crafted with utmost precision so that the chess set is perfect in all aspects of construction.

The pieces have been Antiqued to give the effect of patina on vintage chessmen and will take the proud owners back in time to 1849.
These Chessmen are a perfect amalgamation of form and function and their elegant aesthetics are in no way compromised by their practical utility.

The styling of each of the Leuchars Cook Chess pieces follows a certain defined grammar. The King is represented by his crown, The Queen, by her coronet. The Bishops wear distinctive miters with deep clefts. The Knights – generally considered the showstoppers among all Chessmen – have flared nostrils and high crowned manes. The Castles look solid, as they should, with widely crenulated battlements, while the pawns are topped by a plain ball.

They will find great favour with chess players, collectors and hobbyist for their distinctive looks, for the heft and solidity of their feel, for their stability which comes from their wide and weighted bases, and from the felt-lined bottoms of their bases, which create an illusion that they are floating on the Chessboard.
